About Reno
Reno's main Pride event is Northern Nevada Pride. It is produced by Our Center, the LGBTQ+ community center for Northern Nevada, a nonprofit based on South Wells Avenue. Money raised on the day goes back into the center's year-round programs, which range from youth groups to meetups for seniors.
The celebration takes place every September. The day opens in the morning with the CommUNITY Pride Parade. Nonprofits, businesses, dance groups and groups of friends march with floats and flags through downtown or Midtown; the organizers set the exact route each year. Watching is free. After the parade the crowd moves to the festival in Wingfield Park, a green space on an island in the Truckee River right in the city center. There is a stage with music, comedy, dance and drag, plus booths from community groups, health services and vendors.
If you want to take part, the organizers accept applications from volunteers, booth holders, parade entries and performers. Volunteers carry much of the work: Our Center's helpers handle setup, the gates and visitor support.
Outside Pride weekend, Our Center's calendar is worth checking. The center runs smaller gatherings, support groups and community evenings throughout the year, and it is the best first stop for visitors who want to know what is coming up in Reno.
