About Sarasota
Sarasota's Pride is now called the Gulfcoast Pride Festival. It is organized by Project Pride SRQ, a local nonprofit. The event used to be known as Sarasota Pride. When it absorbed the former Manatee Pride from the county just to the north, it took on a new name that covers both sides of the region.
Unlike many Prides further north, the festival does not happen in June. It takes place in October, once the summer heat on the Gulf Coast has eased. The setting is the Rosemary District on the northern edge of downtown, a small neighborhood of galleries, restaurants and new apartment buildings. The festival brings booths from community groups, support organizations and local businesses, along with food, live music on stage and drag performances.
Project Pride SRQ is the main point of contact for LGBTQ+ events in Sarasota and neighboring Bradenton throughout the year. Since the merger with Manatee Pride it covers both counties. Dates, the program and ways to volunteer are announced ahead of each festival on the organizer's channels.
If you are traveling along the Gulf Coast in October, the festival is easy to fit into a trip. Sarasota is a compact city, and the festival grounds are central and within walking distance of downtown.
