About Mistelbach
Mistelbach, the district capital in the northeastern Weinviertel of Lower Austria, has its own Pride. Mistelbach Pride is organized by the association Pride Mistelbach and takes place in late May or early June. The main square, the Hauptplatz, is at the center of it: a parade moves through the town, followed by a drag show and music on stage. The organizers see Pride as a visible sign of respect and solidarity in the town.
The town government supports the event openly. Ahead of Pride, a rainbow flag is raised in front of the town hall, with local officials taking part. The wider program also includes a queer church service called Pride Prayer, which has been held at several editions of Mistelbach Pride and has taken place in the Protestant church.
If you are looking for more Pride events in the region, there are two other options worth knowing about. In Wiener Neustadt, a rainbow parade starts from the main square in June, organized by the local community around the association Queeres Wiener Neustadt. The biggest event in the country is the Rainbow Parade in Vienna, the Regenbogenparade, which moves around the Ringstrasse in June, against the direction of traffic. It is organized by HOSI Wien, the Homosexual Initiative Vienna, which has campaigned for lesbian, gay and queer rights for decades. The parade is part of Vienna Pride, which also includes the Pride Village on the square in front of City Hall, a Pride Night and other events.
