Newquay Pride 2027 / Newquay Cornwall Pride 2027

Newquay has become the main Pride town in Cornwall. The event is run by Cornwall Pride, a registered charity that supports LGBTQ+ people across the county. Its flagship Pride used to take place in Truro and moved to Newquay in the late 2010s. Since then it has usually been held on a Saturday in late summer, often at the end of August, when the town is already full of holidaymakers.

The day starts at midday with a march through the town centre. The exact route changes from year to year, but it ends at Killacourt, a green space on the clifftop above the town centre. Marchers carry a huge rainbow flag that the organisers describe as the largest Pride flag in the world. Volunteer marshals from Cornwall Pride walk alongside the march together with the police. Anyone can join at the starting point; groups that want to bring a vehicle register through the charity's website.

After the march, Killacourt hosts a stage with live entertainment running into the evening, along with stalls from local groups, charities and traders. A bar in the town centre then hosts the official afterparty.

On the Atlantic coast the weather has the final say. The march has been called off or postponed at short notice when storms were forecast, so it is worth checking Cornwall Pride's announcements before travelling.

Outside of Pride day, Cornwall Pride runs support work throughout the year: peer support groups, a hate crime reporting service, inclusion training, and a Safer Spaces scheme in which businesses commit to being safe places for LGBTQ+ customers. Newquay no longer has a dedicated gay pub; the Queen Vic, once the town's gay bar, closed years ago. That makes Pride day the moment when queer life in Cornwall is most visible in the town, and for many people from smaller places in the county it is the one big gathering of the year.
