About Oberhavel PrideAs of 2025
Oberhavel Pride brings a day of visible presence for queer life to the district of Oberhavel, held in Oranienburg, the district's main town. It is organized by the Oberhavel Pride Initiative, a volunteer-run group that has worked since the event's first edition to make diversity in this rural area north of Berlin something people can actually experience together.
The day follows the shape of a classic pride demonstration: the march sets off from the square in front of Oranienburg train station, moves through the town, and stops at Schlossplatz for a rally with speeches calling for equal rights for everyone. From there, the march continues to the grounds of the Oranienwerk, where a festival takes over for the rest of the day, with local associations, initiatives and democratic organizations running information stands.
A wide network of local partners supports the event, including the Kreisjugendring Oberhavel (district youth council), the Jugendcafé Oranienburg, Kids Kreativ, the German Red Cross youth club, and the town of Oranienburg itself. The festival portion at the Oranienwerk is additionally co-organized by the group Oberhavel ist bunt.
Oberhavel Pride is deliberately more than a party, meant as a political statement against hostility toward queer people and for a respectful community in a region where queer life away from the big city is often less visible. Parties, youth organizations and democratic alliances are invited to join with their own flags and stands.
