About Jüterbog Pride

Teltow-Fläming Pride has now reached its second edition and speaks to the whole county rather than a single town. Instead of one demonstration day, a multi-day Pride week runs across the county, closing with a central event in Jüterbog.

Jüterbog itself received town rights back in 1174 and still carries a well-preserved medieval town wall with several gates and defence towers – a place where a Pride event is more unusual than expected.

The event is organised by a volunteer team of queer people and allies from the region, without a large association or a dedicated office behind it. Press enquiries go through a separate contact address, while day-to-day communication runs mainly through the initiative's Instagram channel – there is no dedicated website so far.

Teltow-Fläming county is among the regions where organised queer visibility is still comparatively young. A Pride week that links several days and several places across the county, rather than sticking to a single date, is an unusual but consistent approach for that. The fact that the first edition happened at all the year before already counted as a success for many involved – a second one shows that it is meant to become more than a one-off gesture.

About Jüterbog

In Jüterbog, a picturesque small town in Brandenburg, Germany, the LGBTQ+ community thrives through vibrant Pride events that emphasize visibility, joy, and advocacy. Local Pride parades wind through historic streets, featuring rainbow flags, live music, and inclusive celebrations that draw residents and visitors alike. These gatherings blend festivity with activism, highlighting the community's commitment to equality in a rural setting.

The history of LGBTQ+ presence in Jüterbog reflects quiet resilience and growing openness. Early networks formed in private homes and informal meetups, fostering support amid conservative surroundings. Over time, dedicated individuals built a foundation for public expression, turning whispers into proud declarations. Brandenburg's Pride scene stands out for its intimate scale—less overwhelming than urban spectacles, yet rich in community spirit and heartfelt participation.

For English-speaking audiences, Jüterbog offers an authentic glimpse into German queer culture: think cozy street parties on town squares, educational workshops on identity and rights, and alliances with local schools and organizations. These events underscore Germany's progressive stance on LGBTQ+ issues, from legal protections to cultural integration, while embracing regional charm like folk music infused with modern beats.

Pride in Jüterbog symbolizes empowerment and belonging. It invites newcomers to experience a welcoming atmosphere where personal stories shine. Parades culminate in rallies calling for continued progress against discrimination, celebrating milestones in acceptance.
