About Lahr Pride

Pride in Lahr began with a small group of volunteers who wanted more visibility for queer life in their part of the Black Forest. What grew out of that idea is now the town's own Pride event, run by a local group currently forming itself into a registered association.

The event runs under the motto "Queer gegen Rechts" (Queer against the far right), a statement for democracy, diversity, human rights and an open society. The parade starts at the town hall square and moves through the historic centre before reaching the former slaughterhouse grounds, where the day continues with a closing rally.

At the closing rally, visitors can expect a stage programme with music, speeches and contributions from local groups and allies. Alongside the political demonstration, organisers want the day to work as a celebration too, a chance for LGBTQ+ people and their supporters in and around Lahr to meet and be seen in public.

This is the first Pride ever held in Lahr. It is organised entirely by volunteers, a small group of women and men who set out to make queer life in the town more visible. Anyone who wants to get involved or find out more can contact the organisers by email.

About Lahr

In Lahr, nestled in Germany's Black Forest region, the Pride movement represents a vibrant push for diversity and inclusion within the LGBTQ+ community. Local Pride events serve as key gatherings that bring together residents and visitors to celebrate queer visibility and advocate for equal rights. These celebrations feature parades through the city streets, accompanied by music, performances, and interactive programs designed to foster dialogue and solidarity.

The history of Lahr's LGBTQ+ community is one of quiet resilience turning into bold public expression. Early efforts focused on building safe spaces through private networks and grassroots support, gradually evolving into organized public demonstrations. Community leaders have worked tirelessly to bridge gaps with local institutions, including faith groups and civic organizations, countering prejudice and promoting understanding in this traditionally conservative area.

For English-speaking audiences, Lahr's Pride stands out as an authentic slice of German queer culture, emphasizing political activism rooted in the global fight for human rights. Unlike larger urban spectacles, these events highlight rural challenges, such as isolation and the need for regional alliances. They invite everyone—queer individuals, allies, and newcomers—to participate in marches and festivities that underscore unity against discrimination.

Lahr's Pride scene continues to expand, offering a welcoming atmosphere where personal stories are shared and collective strength is built. These timeless gatherings reinforce the message that acceptance thrives in community-driven actions, making Lahr a hidden gem for those exploring queer life in smaller German towns. The focus remains on creating lasting change through education, art, and joyful celebration.
