Schwerin Pride 2027

Christopher Street Day in Schwerin is both a demonstration for the rights of queer people and a celebration in the city centre. It is organised by the local Pride association. The march sets off from the Alter Garten, the square between the castle, the state theatre and the museum, and continues through the streets of Schwerin's centre. A street festival with a stage, information stands and music follows.

Schwerin has held its Pride for around twenty years. What began as a small street festival has grown into one of the larger demonstrations for diversity and equal rights in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The organisers stress that it is more than a colourful parade: it recalls the history of the queer movement, draws attention to everyday discrimination and calls for an open, democratic society in which nobody has to live in fear because of gender, sexual orientation, origin or religion. In a state where queer events have also faced hostility, this visibility carries weight.

Pride comes with a cultural programme of about two weeks, the Queer Culture Days, with workshops, film evenings and discussions. A regular venue is the Klub Einblick, the city's queer communication and counselling centre, which also runs an open Friday café throughout the year.

Visitors will find an event of manageable size: the route stays within the compact centre, and between the march, the street festival and the cultural programme there is room to talk with people from the city and the surrounding region.
