About Derby Pride
Derby Pride takes place in Markeaton Park, one of the city's largest green spaces on the edge of the centre, and it feels a lot more like a family fair and picnic in the park than a protest march, which sets it apart from many other Pride events.
The day starts early: a small fairground opens in the morning before the march itself sets off later in the morning. It loops once around part of the park and finishes at the entrance to the main festival site, where a main stage, market area and several themed tents sit next to each other.
The market area brings together local businesses and charities from Derby and the wider county of Derbyshire, alongside an “Alternative Tent” for music and art outside the main programme, plus a dedicated family area for anyone bringing kids along. Bars and food stalls make sure nobody spends the afternoon on an empty stomach.
Derby itself sits in the centre of England, right on the edge of the Peak District, and is best known for its industrial history, the city was once a major centre of railway manufacturing. None of that history is obvious in Markeaton Park itself: the sprawling landscaped grounds, with mature trees dating back generations, feel more like a day-trip destination than an industrial site.
