About Bühl Pride
Bühl, a town in Baden-Württemberg between Baden-Baden and the French border, holds its own Pride, run by a local volunteer group. It's a young event, already into its second edition — proof that the first one wasn't a one-off but the start of something worth repeating.
Like any Pride, the day centres on a march open to everyone, moving through the town centre and giving queer people and their allies a visible, public presence for an afternoon, usually followed by a gathering with speeches and music.
What stands out about Bühl's Pride isn't its size — a small-town event will never draw the crowds of a big city — but the fact that it happened again. A first Pride can be written off as a one-time experiment; a second means the people behind it decided it was worth doing once more, and that enough others showed up to agree. Keeping a young event alive for a second year, with no established infrastructure to lean on, takes more organising effort than it might look like from the outside.
For queer people living in and around Bühl, the event offers something a trip to Karlsruhe or Strasbourg can't: a Pride that takes place at home, organised by people from the region, on streets they walk every day. Small in scale, perhaps, but not small in what it means to the people who show up.
