About Goslar Pride

Goslar's Pride grew out of the local Jugendforum Goslar (youth forum) and is now run by a registered volunteer association – entirely on a volunteer basis, funded through donations and membership fees. That keeps it independent of public funding bodies, but also leaves it exposed whenever donations run thin.

The march covers roughly four and a half kilometres through the historic old town of the former imperial city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, past half-timbered houses and narrow lanes to Jakobikirchhof square. A rally with a stage programme follows there: speeches alternate with music and performances, alongside info stalls run by parties, associations and local groups, plus food and drinks.

A recurring theme of the event is visibility for queer people outside the big cities: Goslar sits on the edge of the Harz mountains, far from the scene districts of any metropolis, which is exactly what makes the march an important anchor point for queer people from across the region.

All of this is carried by a small team that puts the event together year after year without any paid staff behind it. Pride in Goslar works as both political demonstration and celebration – an afternoon when a small town on the edge of the Harz turns loud and colourful for a few hours.

About Goslar

Goslar has become an important hub for LGBTQ+ visibility and acceptance in recent years. The Pride parades that regularly march through the picturesque old town have evolved into significant social events, attracting thousands of visitors from across the region. These vibrant demonstrations blend political messages with cultural offerings, creating spaces for dialogue, connection, and mutual support between the queer community and its allies.

The Pride movement in Goslar draws inspiration from a global history of LGBTQ+ activism and resistance. The movement traces its roots to pivotal moments of civil disobedience and community solidarity, which sparked international movements for equality and human rights. Today, Pride events serve as platforms where demands for equal rights, tolerance, and diversity are voiced loudly and proudly.

In Goslar, Pride celebrations are organized by dedicated volunteers committed to advancing queer visibility and acceptance. The events feature colorful parades through the city center, accompanied by rallies with live music, performances, and speeches from local organizations and community groups. Participants and supporters gather to celebrate the diversity of LGBTQ+ identities and to advocate for continued progress toward full equality and social inclusion. The combination of festive celebration and political activism makes Goslar's Pride a unique and meaningful experience that brings joy, solidarity, and social consciousness together.
