Köthen Pride 2027

Köthen has its own Pride. Pride Köthen is a regional group within the Saxony-Anhalt state Pride association, which supports Pride events in small and mid-sized towns across the state from its base in Magdeburg. The event takes place on a Saturday in summer. People gather on the market square by the town hall, and the march then moves through the town centre with flags, banners and music.

The organisers see the day as a political demonstration for acceptance, equal rights and democracy. In the week before, there are smaller events alongside it. Anyone who wants to run a stall, join the march with a vehicle or perform on stage can contact the organising team through the Pride Köthen website. The group is funded by donations and local supporters.

Köthen is part of a close network of Pride events in Saxony-Anhalt. Besides Köthen, the state association coordinates Prides in Dessau-Roßlau, Wittenberg, Merseburg, Schönebeck, Stendal and Salzwedel, as well as the larger parades in Magdeburg and Halle. Dessau-Roßlau, the nearest larger town, holds its own Pride with a march and street festival. Magdeburg and Halle have their own marches too, so visitors to the region can attend several Prides nearby over the summer.

In a smaller town the event carries real weight, because Köthen has no queer bars or clubs of its own. For many people, Pride day is the most visible chance in the year to meet and show up together.
