About Neubrandenburg Pride
Neubrandenburg shares its Pride with the neighbouring town of Neustrelitz: the march alternates each year between the two towns in the Mecklenburg Lake District. The event is organised by queerNB, an association based in Neubrandenburg.
Queer visibility in the region goes back further than one might expect. Long before there was ever a march, Neubrandenburg held a queer street festival. That festival later grew into the region's first Pride march, held first in Neustrelitz and, a year on, in Neubrandenburg itself. Since then the two towns have taken turns hosting the event every year.
The market square in the town centre regularly serves as the central venue, with a rally, information stalls, and a cultural programme following the march. queerNB sees itself not just as the organiser of an annual date but as a year-round point of contact for queer people in a fairly rural region, where the nearest big city is a long way off.
The alternation between two towns is what makes Pride in the Mecklenburg Lake District distinctive: visibility is not concentrated in one place but deliberately shared between two towns, so queer life stays visible across the whole region rather than in a single spot once a year.
