About Zittau Pride
Pride in Zittau brings the event to a corner of Saxony that rarely gets attention: Upper Lusatia, close to the borders with Poland and the Czech Republic. Since its first edition, it has been organized by a volunteer core team that grew out of a youth initiative and is currently working on formally registering as an association.
The traditional meeting point is the market square, from where the march moves through town before an afternoon program with musical surprises rounds things off. The point isn't really the size of the event. It's the fact that it exists at all: in Upper Lusatia, there are few other chances for queer people to be visible in public.
The team behind the event includes students, working professionals, and political activists from very different backgrounds, backed by a wider network of volunteers. They regularly look for more help, whether for the awareness team, for donations, or just for hands-on support with organizing.
What started in Zittau as a small, local initiative has turned into a fixed yearly date, and it makes a point that queer life doesn't stop at the edge of Saxony's bigger cities. It has a place in the countryside too.
