About Amberg Pride
Once a year, Amberg Pride brings a splash of color to the old town of Amberg, a former princely capital in Bavaria's Upper Palatinate region with a history stretching back over a thousand years. The event is run by Kunterbunt Amberg, an association that grew out of a youth group and now co-organizes several Pride events across the region, coordinating dates with nearby towns like Cham, Schwandorf, and Weiden.
It's a small, personal affair. A rally on the main market square opens the day, often with a few words from city officials, before a march winds through the narrow streets of the old town. A drum group and a music truck accompany the procession, and organizers deliberately keep a quieter section at the back for anyone who finds crowds and noise overwhelming. Back on the square, the afternoon fills up with stage performances, panel discussions, and information booths, before an after-party at a local pub closes out the evening.
Amberg itself is a small, fairly conservative town, known for its well-preserved medieval town wall and its past as capital of the Upper Palatinate.
