About Bocholt Pride

Pride in Bocholt is a young event in the Münsterland region, organised by Bocholt Pride e.V. The group works for more visibility and acceptance of queer people in a mostly rural part of Germany, and beyond the parade it also runs a peer support circle, a regular meet-up and an allies' get-together.

The event runs under the motto "Grenzenlos Stolz – Nie wieder still" (Pride without borders, never silent again) and combines a political demonstration, the "Parade of Diversity," with a street festival. The parade moves through the town centre and leads into the "Festival of Diversity" on a central square, where a stage programme mixes music, drag performances and panel talks. An afterparty closes out the day.

On stage, drag performers share the bill with DJ sets and musical acts, hosted by a small presenting team; local politicians and community figures also speak. The event works both as a demonstration for equal rights and as a celebration that makes queer life in the region visible.

The whole event runs on volunteer work. Bocholt Pride e.V. started out as a young association and has quickly become a fixed point in the calendar for queer people and their allies in and around Bocholt.

About Bocholt

Bocholt's Pride movement thrives as a vibrant celebration of diversity and acceptance in this German town near the Dutch border. Pride events, centered around a colorful parade through the city center, bring together locals and visitors to champion LGBTQ+ rights and visibility. Starting from key spots like Berliner Platz, the march fills the streets with rainbow flags, creative outfits, and powerful messages of equality, culminating in a festival on St.-Georg-Platz filled with stalls, performances, and discussions.

The local LGBTQ+ community has built a strong presence through dedicated groups like Bocholt Pride e.V., organizing inclusive gatherings that blend politics, culture, and joy. These include drag shows, talks with city officials, and family-friendly activities like a Pride Playground, making events accessible to all ages. Rooted in the global spirit of the Stonewall uprising, Bocholt's Pride emphasizes community building and advocacy against discrimination.

For English-speaking audiences, Bocholt offers a welcoming entry into Germany's queer scene, with its cross-border appeal drawing participants from neighboring Netherlands. The town's textile heritage adds a unique flair, weaving queer expression into everyday life. Pride here stands out for its mix of festive energy and serious dialogue, creating spaces where newcomers can connect, learn, and celebrate. Local leaders often join, signaling strong institutional support.
