About Erlangen Pride

Pride Erlangen is organised by MakeYourTownQueer e.V., the city's queer community centre, and forms part of the fixed yearly calendar of queer events in Erlangen. Under the motto laut.stark.queer, loud.strong.queer, the event puts visibility, solidarity, and a society free of discrimination at its centre.

The main demonstration starts at Schloßplatz and moves from there through Erlangen's city centre. Organisers use the march to call for explicit constitutional protection for queer people, permanent funding for queer counselling services, and stronger action against hate crime and hate speech. Anyone who wants to join with a walking group or an information stall can register in advance online.

Around the demonstration day, several Pride Weeks fill out a wider programme: creative meetups at the queer centre, a glitter bingo night at the E-Werk venue, a group ride with the Erlangen Mainriders, a poetry slam, a drag brunch, a queer bar evening, and a queer church service at the Neustädter university church. The evening of the march ends with an afterparty at the E-Werk, followed the next day by a church film screening and a ballroom documentary night.

Pride Erlangen is supported by companies including Siemens and Siemens Healthineers, along with regional organisations. One rule applies across the events: national flags and other national symbols are not welcome.

About Erlangen

Erlangen, a vibrant university city in central Franconia, hosts a thriving Pride movement centered around its annual Pride parade that winds through the historic Neustadt and Altstadt districts. This colorful event draws thousands, celebrating diversity and solidarity within the local LGBTQ+ community. Organized by dedicated groups, the parade highlights personal stories and calls for equality, fostering a sense of belonging in this welcoming Bavarian town.

The roots of Erlangen's queer scene trace back to student activism at Friedrich-Alexander University, where early networks formed to advocate for rights and visibility. Influenced by the city's legacy of tolerance—stemming from Huguenot refugees who sought religious freedom—the community has grown into a cornerstone of urban life. For English-speaking visitors, Erlangen offers a unique blend of German efficiency and heartfelt inclusivity, with events like workshops, art exhibits, and parties that bridge cultural gaps and promote global queer solidarity.

Pride in Erlangen emphasizes intersectionality, addressing issues like trans rights, mental health, and family acceptance, all within a context of moderate Bavarian progressivism. Parades culminate in concerts and speeches at central squares, often featuring local politicians and international allies. The movement's ties to nationwide networks amplify its impact, making Erlangen a hidden gem for those seeking authentic European Pride experiences away from larger metropolises.

Community spaces host year-round activities, from discussion panels to film screenings, ensuring Pride is an ongoing commitment rather than a one-off event. Visitors appreciate the international student vibe, which infuses the scene with youthful energy and multilingual interactions. Erlangen's Pride stands as a testament to quiet resilience, inviting travelers to join a movement that values openness and respect in everyday life.
