About Peine Pride

Pride in Peine is a queer demonstration in the district town of Peine, in Lower Saxony, standing up for democracy, human rights, and the visibility of queer life outside Germany's larger cities. The event is organised by a loose alliance of committed volunteers, coordinated by the queer counselling service of the Paritätischer welfare association in the Peine district. Rather than a large established association, it is a grassroots, locally rooted coalition working for queer visibility in the region.

The march begins behind Peine's town hall, where participants gather before the procession sets off with speeches and makes its way on foot through the town centre. Its destination is the market square, where a programme of information stalls, further speeches, and music follows. The demonstration is accompanied by an awareness team and stewards, with a police presence also arranged to help ensure a safe environment for everyone taking part.

After the daytime programme on the market square, Pride in Peine winds down with a celebration at UJZ Peine, an independent youth culture centre in the town known for its varied concerts and community events. Pride in Peine is explicitly understood as a political statement as well as a celebration: a demonstration that gives queer people a voice in a more small-town setting and calls for solidarity and mutual protection. Anyone wanting to get involved can find out more and make contact through the queer counselling service of Paritätischer Peine or via the official Instagram channel @csd_peine.
