Guernsey's LGBTQ+ rights journey has seen significant progress, highlighted by the decriminalization of male homosexual acts in 1984—a milestone set to be celebrated in 2024 with its 40th anniversary. This paved the way for growing acceptance on the Channel Islands. The island's first Pride event occurred in 2016 as part of Channel Islands Pride (CI Pride), a pan-island celebration uniting Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney, Herm, and Sark under the theme 'United Through Pride'. Thousands gathered in St. Peter Port, assembling at Candie Gardens for a march to Market Square, filled with speeches, performances, and festivities.

In 2022, CI Pride returned to Guernsey with a week-long series of 1970s-themed events marking 50 years since the UK's first Pride in 1972. Prominent activist Jayne Ozanne addressed thousands in Market Square, expressing astonishment at the progress since her youth in the 1970s. Highlights included the Pride March, live music on a main stage, stalls, family areas, and an after-party. Rainbow flags adorned buildings, and the Market Steps were painted in Pride colors using eco-friendly chalk. Events spanned Thursday to Sunday, blending daytime activities for all ages with evening adult-oriented gatherings.

Today, CI Pride alternates between Guernsey and Jersey, organized by local charities like Liberate Guernsey. While strides have been made, challenges remain, such as stronger hate speech protections. The community continues advocating for equality through solidarity and visibility. Guernsey's Pride exemplifies grassroots efforts fostering inclusivity, drawing visitors from afar to join in celebration of authentic selves. With plans for historical documentation and future events, the movement remains vibrant and forward-looking.
