The Pride movement in Switzerland boasts a pioneering history, starting with the inaugural Christopher Street Day on June 24, 1978, in Zurich. Organized by the Swiss Organization of Homophiles (S.O.H.), about 100 demonstrators gathered at Platzspitz to protest homosexual registries and demand equal age-of-consent laws, making it Europe's first Pride event.

Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, Prides spread to cities like Bern (1979), Basel (1980), and Lausanne (1981). The AIDS crisis shaped many events into memorials and advocacy rallies. After a hiatus, Zurich revived annual Prides in 1994 via the '25 Years Stonewall' group, featuring film festivals, parties, and queer history tours. By 1995, the CSD Zurich association formed, evolving into the Zurich Pride Festival post-2009 EuroPride, which drew 50,000 marchers under the slogan 'Your rights are my rights'.

Major celebrations thrive today in Zurich, Basel, and Geneva. Zurich Pride, held early June, features speeches at Helvetiaplatz, massive parades through the city center, and festivals at sites like Zeughausareal. Emerging events include Bern Pride (debuting 2023 with 10,000 attendees), St. Gallen Pride (2023, 2,500 participants), and the 2024 Rüebli Pride in Aargau. Cross-border Prides occur biennially in Kreuzlingen/Konstanz.

Legally, Switzerland shines with marriage equality since 2022, anti-discrimination protections, and broad societal acceptance. Yet Prides push for trans rights and intersectional inclusion. From raw protests to vibrant festivals, they embody Switzerland's progressive stance, attracting global visitors to its safe, welcoming queer scene.
