About Aurich Pride

Aurich, the district seat of East Frisia in Lower Saxony, hosts one of the most visible Pride events in the northwest of the state. Behind it stands Ulrichs e.V., an association named after Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, the jurist and early advocate for the rights of homosexual people, who was among the first to argue publicly for sexual diversity.

At its core is a march through the town center, followed by a rally with speeches. In a largely rural region where queer meeting places and support groups are far rarer than in big cities, that kind of public visibility does not come often. Visitors who join the Pride in Aurich also find a chance to connect with local groups and initiatives that otherwise stay mostly out of sight throughout the year.

Since its founding, an all-volunteer team has run the event, one that reshapes itself year after year and keeps recruiting new members. Because the schedule and stage program shift from one edition to the next, the association shares current details through its social media channels rather than a static website.

Holding a Pride in a town the size of Aurich carries its own weight. It marks a day when queer life, so often invisible in everyday routine, steps into the open instead of staying at the margins.

About Aurich

Aurich, a picturesque town in Germany's Ostfriesland region, hosts vibrant Pride events that celebrate the LGBTQ+ community's spirit of resilience and unity. These gatherings, centered around colorful parades, bring together locals and allies to advocate for acceptance, equality, and an end to discrimination. Starting from key spots like the Sparkassen-Arena, the marches weave through the streets, culminating at lively venues such as the Bürgermeister-Hippen-Platz or the Karl-Heinrich-Ulrichs-Platz, honoring a native son recognized as a pioneering figure in the fight for homosexual rights.

The local LGBTQ+ history is marked by dedicated individuals who ignited the flame of visibility. Inspired by motifs like 'being seen and seen,' early organizers paved the way for parades that highlight personal stories and communal strength. A memorial plaque at the Ulrichs Platz stands as a beacon, commemorating this trailblazer's legacy. For English-speaking visitors, Aurich's Pride stands out for its welcoming, community-driven vibe amid the scenic East Frisian landscape, blending German efficiency with heartfelt inclusivity.

These events feature demonstrations paired with street festivals, stage performances, and cultural showcases that draw hundreds in rainbow attire. They echo global Pride roots while addressing local needs, such as marriage equality and anti-bias education. The atmosphere buzzes with music, dance, and shared joy, fostering dialogues that bridge divides. Aurich's scene grows steadily, supported by passionate leaders who amplify queer voices. Whether you're a traveler seeking authentic experiences or someone exploring identity, these celebrations offer a timeless embrace of diversity in a friendly German setting.
